Connect by Phone, Email or U.S. Mail
The Wayne County Detention Center recognized the importance of an inmate's ability to communicate not only with their legal counsel, but also their family, friends, and the community. The Detention Center provides several options to inmates at the facility for communication.
Inmate Telephone Calls
Inmates assigned to the general population cell blocks are allowed to access the telephones each day. The inmate telephone system is programmed for outgoing collect calls only and are provided through our Amtel telephone system. The party accepting the collect call will be required to pay for the telephone call.
During the initial phase of the inmate booking procedure, each inmate is afforded the opportunity to make a free telephone call. THe party receiving this free call still can accept or deny the telephone call.
Telephone Policy
- Inmates are not permitted to receive telephone calls
- All telephone calls are limited to fifteen (15) minutes
- Three-way telephone calling is strictly prohibited
- Detention Staff cannot pass notes or deliver any messages to inmates.
Telephone Availability
All inmates' telephones within the cell blocks will be turned on at 12:00 p.m. and turned off at 10:00 p.m. Telephones will also be turned off during meals, shift changes, and any other time deemed necessary by the Wayne County Detention Center to maintain the safery and security of the facility. Under certain circumstances, inmates may be denied access to telephones. These circumstances include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Inmates housed in Disciplinary Segregation
- Inmates places in Closed Custody
If an inmate needs to be contacted in the event of an emergency, please contact the Wayne County Detention Center at 912-4274-5975. If an inmate is hearing impaired, the Detention Center is equipped with equipment to accommodate them.
Blocking Inmate Calls
To stop an inmate from calling, please call the Wayne County Detention Center at 912-427-5975 and advice them to remove your number from the inmates approved list.
Inmate Texting
Inmates are provided the use of a tablet phone have a dedicated phone number and device for direct access to their loved ones from the provacy of their cells. Cost is applied per text. The system used is Reliance Telephone, you must create an account to access inmate.

Video Chat Calls
The Wayne County Detention Center is erquipped with a telephone system called HOMEWAV. This system allows inmates to make video and voice calls, direct scheduling, and eMessaging.

Inmate Postal Mail
Inmates may use the U.S. Postal Service to send and receive correspondence. The inmates are only allowed to receive pre-stamped post cards only.
