Honor Guard
The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard Unit represents the Sheriff’s Office at law enforcement officer, fire fighter and military funerals while adding compassion, strength, and a sense of caring to the families of fallen peace officers. The honor guard also performs in parades and other ceremonies as directed by the Sheriff and is available to assist other jurisdictions with Honor Guard services. The Honor Guard Unit represents the Sheriff’s Office conducting flag presentations at ceremonies such as Sheriff’s Office special events, football games, parades, etc.
Deputies in the Honor Guard come from military and non-military backgrounds. They are volunteers who are carefully screened for their physical ability and dexterity. Only those officers who are highly motivated, show aptitude for ceremonial duty, maintain exceptionally high standards of professional appearance and conduct are considered as candidates. In all seasons and weather the Honor Guard maintains its strict composure, precise military bearing, and meticulous attention to detail.
